For the sake of not being excessively wordy in this article we will use the term “wall art” to refer to all wall home decor from paintings and prints, to signs, architectural pieces, photo gallery walls and mixed media gallery walls.
Wall art adds visual interest to a room and can create a focal point that draws the eye and sets the tone for the rest of the space. Mirrors and mixed media gallery walls can also add depth and dimension to a room, making it feel more expansive and inviting.
Wall art also has the power to evoke emotions. Carefully chosen pieces can create a sense of warmth, comfort, or even excitement in a room. It can also be a conversation starter and provide a glimpse into your personality and style.
Group different pieces together as a way to express your creativity and individuality. By choosing pieces that speak to you and reflect your personal taste, you can create a space that is uniquely yours!
When it comes to wall art, there are countless options to choose from. Paintings, prints, photographs, and mixed media pieces are just a few examples. Each type of wall art has its own unique qualities and can be used to achieve different effects in a room.
Paintings are a classic choice for wall art. They come in a variety of styles, from traditional to abstract, and can be created with a range of mediums, including oil, acrylic, and watercolor. Paintings can add depth and texture to a room and are often used as a focal point.
Prints are another popular choice for wall art. They are generally less expensive than paintings and come in a wide variety of styles and sizes. Prints can be created using a range of techniques, including lithography, screen printing, and digital printing. They are a great way to add color and interest to a room without breaking the bank.
Our Textured Botanical Framed Prints have a textured print that adds dimension to the print and almost looks as if they are real dried florals lifting up out of the canvas. You can group them as a gallery of 6 or do smaller groupings or even a single print.
Photographs are a great way to add a personal touch to your wall art collection. They can be images of anything from family members to landscapes and can be printed in a range of sizes and styles. Photographs can be used to create a sense of nostalgia or to showcase your love of travel or nature.
Create a gallery wall with ease with our Timberwood Frame Gallery made from reclaimed beams from Pennsylvania. Custom canvas printing of all of your most cherished photos is included with the purchase of the frames. Gift giving options for printing are available as well.
Mixed media pieces are a great way to add texture and dimension to a room. They can be created using a variety of materials, including paint, paper, fabric, and found objects. Mixed media pieces are often used as a focal point and can be a great conversation starter.
One of the most common mistakes people make is selecting wall decor that is undersized for the wall it is hung on. A good starting rule of thumb is to measure your wall and divide it by 3. This will be the minimum length your wall art or wall decor should be. For example, my dining room wall is 138". 138"/ 3 = 46". Notice I said “starting rule of thumb” and "minimum length" this means don't go smaller than ⅓ the length of your wall and bigger is probably better.
The problem that I have found, is that most big chain home decor stores don't even carry pieces that are 46" in length. And a 138" wall is a relatively small wall. So ditch your usual trip to your local hobby and home decor store for your wall art and decor. Visit home decor boutiques and antique stores for unique pieces instead. Be sure to measure your wall(s) and take pictures before you shop and be sure to bring your tape measure with you! Talk to the store proprietors and clerks and get their help and opinions. Most love to help their customers decorate their spaces and many boutiques offer free design services and can help you shop for pieces that may not be in the store but fit your style and aesthetic perfectly.

Once you have chosen your wall art, it's time to think about placement and arrangement. There are a few tips to keep in mind to ensure that your wall art looks its best.
First, consider the height at which you hang your art. The general rule of thumb is to hang art at eye level, which is typically around 57 inches from the floor. This ensures that your art is easily visible and does not require viewers to strain their necks to see it.
Second, consider the arrangement of your art. You can hang a single large piece of art for a dramatic effect or create a gallery wall of smaller pieces for a more eclectic feel. When arranging multiple pieces, be sure to consider the spacing between them to ensure that they do not appear cluttered.
Our Ogee Mirrors make creating a stunning gallery wall easy! Mirrors reflect light brightening your space and can make a small space look larger and more open.
Finally, consider the lighting in your room. Proper lighting can enhance the beauty of your wall art and create a warm and inviting atmosphere.
If you're feeling creative, there are plenty of DIY wall art ideas to try. Some popular ideas include creating a canvas painting using acrylics or watercolors, printing and framing your own photographs, or creating a mixed media piece using found objects.
Look for frames to recycle and repurpose from thrift stores, antique stores, estate and garage sales. One of our favorites is to search out vintage, gold, baroque frames and paint our own canvases to insert for the missing artwork. Sometimes we whitewash/greywash the frame but lately we leave the gold vintage frame in all it's vintage gold glory!
